Information about the division and the department
*The Interaction Design division (IxD) is a multidisciplinary group at
the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chalmers
University of Technology and Gothenburg University. Researchers at the
division conduct research in the areas of computer game design,
aesthetics of computational technology, information visualization,
intelligent user interfaces, and tangible user interfaces. It is
responsible for approximately 20 courses – mainly at the masters level –
and is responsible for two masters programmes: Interaction Design &
Technologies at Chalmers and Game Design & Technology at Gothenburg
University.
The division is located at the Lindholmen Campus and is part of the
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) which is a joint
department between Chalmers University of Technology and University of
Gothenburg. The department has around 270 employees from over 30
countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to
applied systems development. We provide high quality education at
Bachelor's, Master's and graduate levels, offering over 150 courses each
year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations
with academia, industry and society. For more information about the

The division currently consists of eleven tenured professors, associate
professors and senior lecturers, two tenure-track assistant professors
and four PhD students.
The CSE department is now extending the IxD division faculty with an
associate professor or senior lecturer. We are seeking an individual
with a strong research and teaching record within the area of gameplay
design and game programming. Experience in computational media,
procedural-content generation, and game related AI techniques are viewed
positively.
*Major responsibilities
*The position includes the responsibility to be a teacher or co-teacher
in some of the following courses: Introduction to Game Research,
Gameplay Design, Technology-Driven Gameplay Design, and Game Engine
Architecture. Most of these are held during the autumn term.
Responsibilities include supervising students at bachelor and master
levels, grading assignments and exams, running exercises and lecturing.
The work will be done in collaboration with an experienced teacher from
the Interaction Design division and includes some preparation time
before the semester begins.
The successful applicant is expected to fulfill the following activities
regarding education and research:
• Teach and participate in development of game-related courses at
bachelor and master level
• Conduct research, as a member of a research team or as the leader of a
research team
• Actively participate in internal development work at the division and
department levels
• Participate in international research networks, e.g. programme and
review committees
• Actively seek external research funding
• Participation in exchange of knowledge and communication with the
external parties

*Full-time permanent employment.
*Qualifications
*A PhD degree in a field relevant to the courses that define the
position is required. Having a well-established international track
record of publishing research in relevant fields is meritorious.
Documented experience in teaching the subjects that are part of the
courses that define the position is also required. Furthermore,
applicants should have completed courses on teaching and learning in
higher education and doctoral supervision (15 higher education credits)
or other corresponding education. An exception can be made in the event
of external recruitment, but the individual is expected to complete
courses on teaching and learning in higher education comprising 15
higher education credits as well as a doctoral supervision course during
the first two years of the appointment. Well-documented pedagogical
competence is a requirement. You must be accustomed to teaching and be a
skilled educator. For this reason, we place a great deal of emphasis on
your pedagogical portfolio. Experience from performing academic research
or qualified research in industry/the public sector is also meritorious.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in
English. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
