*Bank of America Endowed Chair and Director, Charlotte Visualization
Center *
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the College of
Computing and Informatics invites applications or nominations for the
Bank of America Endowed Chair in Information Technology. The Endowed
Chair will reside in the Department of Computer Science and will also
serve as Director of the Charlotte Visualization Center. The College
seeks candidates who have outstanding research programs directed towards
solving critical issues in visualization, analytics, and/or data
science. The candidates must also show documented evidence of leadership
commensurate with leading a major research center.
The Charlotte Visualization Center (VisCenter, www.viscenter.uncc.edu
<http://www.viscenter.uncc.edu/>) has 8 core faculty members who lead
research in visualization and/or analytics and 30 faculty members from
disciplines across the university. Many students, both graduate and
undergraduate, participate in VisCenter research. The VisCenter has
taken an essential role in the college's and university's Data Science
and Big Data Analytics Initiative. The Endowed Chair will take a
leadership role in this initiative. The initiative involves major
industries in the region as well as state and federal government
entities. The focus is attacking and solving significant real-world
problems with government and business partners with an emphasis on both
basic research and applications of demonstrated value.
The Department seeks candidates who have exceptional research programs
directed toward the critical issues in visualization with evidence of
the ability to attack real-world problems and challenges. An emphasis on
visual analytics or information visualization is a plus. Substantial
resources will be available to help the successful candidate lead a
significant research activity.

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate, significant
scholarship, and a history of funded research. In addition, a candidate
should have a demonstrated interest in fostering collaboration, a
commitment to teaching and mentorship, and be eligible for appointment
to the rank of professor.

over 1000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The
department has a broad and deep research program in many areas of
computer science. The college comprises the largest computing program in
the region and one of the largest in the country. The college and its
departments have undertaken partnerships with major companies in the
region including those in banking and financial services, large retail
sales, energy, health care, biomedical research, and advanced manufacturing.
