The Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) at Virginia 
Tech is seeking an immersive environments specialist. This is an 
opportunity to work with some very creative researchers across many 
disciplines on projects in AR, VR, spatial audio, motion capture, and 
more. A Ph.D. is not required, and this is not a teaching position. Feel

The ICAT Immersive Environments Specialist works in a team setting to 
help researchers from various disciplines to produce content in the 
areas of 3D experiences and immersive environments. Using the process of 
human centered design, this position supports multidisciplinary teams of 
students, faculty, and partner external organizations to succeed. The 
duties of this position range from project-based technical consulting 
and content creation to coordinating human-centered design processes 
from ideation to implementation. The primary role of the Immersive 
Environments Specialist is to provide support to Virginia Tech 
researchers within the studios of ICAT to advance the institute’s 
world-leading immersive environment and 3D experience research, 
educational initiatives and public engagement activities..

Key responsibilities include:
• Supporting the success of multidisciplinary collaborative research 
teams of faculty and students in the area of 3D experiences and 
immersive environments through a human centered design approach
• Technical support of 3D experiences and immersive environment projects 
across multiple computing platforms and languages
• Supporting external partnerships
