Postdoc and Ph.D. Openings available at the University of Bonn (Germany)

The Digital Material Appearance / Computational Light Transport research
group at the University of Bonn (Germany) is pleased to announce the
availability of PhD and postdoc positions. We do research at the
interface between physics, computer graphics, computer vision and
imaging [1].

Within the recently awarded ERC Starting Grant "ECHO", starting this
winter, we will be working on novel ways of using computer graphics as a
set of tools for learning more about the world around us. Among other
things, we will build new computational cameras that can be programmed
to be sensitive only to very specific real-world features; we will
estimate materials from single-pixel measurements, and we will use
echoes of light in order to look around corners.

To meet these goals, we seek excellent candidates to join our group on
the postdoc or PhD level. Successful applicants will have plenty of
opportunity to interact with the other local groups (computer graphics,
robotics, computer vision) and members of our international network of
collaborators in academia and industry.

REQUIREMENTS

We expect candidates for postdoc positions to have completed a PhD in
computer graphics or computer vision with an excellent publication record.

PhD Candidates are expected to have completed a research-centric
master's degree, which has ideally led to one or two first publications.

You need solid programming skills (C++, OpenGL with shaders, CUDA, ...),
a robust mathematical background, and fluency in spoken and written English.

We explicitly invite candidates with machine learning expertise
(especially in a computer graphics context) to apply!

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

If you are interested in joining the team, please send an e-mail to
Professor Matthias Hullin <hullin at uni hyphen bonn dot de> with your
CV/resume and at least 2 references. Make sure to include a brief
motivation in which you explain how you will connect to the work done in
our lab, and what big challenges you are most eager to work on next.

In case you are going to attend SIGGRAPH, Matthias Hullin is looking
forward to meeting with you there.
