*Position Description*
The DiVE Lab at the Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science
Departments of Duke University is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral
Associate in the areas of Virtual/Augmented Reality and/or
Human-Computer Interaction. The specific appointment will be with
Professor Regis Kopper. The Postdoctoral Associate will work on the
design, prototyping and evaluation of next generation public-safety user
interfaces, including mixed reality simulation, situation awareness
tools and cognitive aids for first responders in Fire Safety, Police and
Emergency Medical Services.
Specific tasks for the postdoctoral associate will include:
* Work in partnership with public safety agencies to elicit
requirements; design and prototyping of interaction techniques and
user interfaces in virtual reality for the simulation of next
generation public safety user interfaces; evaluation of the
prototypes with the first responder target populations.
* Lead undergraduate and graduate student research with the DiVE lab.
* Significantly contribute to grant proposal writing and submission.
*Qualifications*
Applicants should have, or are about to complete, a Ph.D. or equivalent
degree in computer science, human-computer interaction, or related
field. The postdoctoral associate must also have excellent oral and
written communication skills, as well as good organizational skills.
Leadership and mentoring skills are essential, as is the ability to work
independently when necessary. Other important qualifications include:
* Experience with human-computer interaction research, including
requirement analysis, human-centered design and user studies.
* Experience with virtual and/or augmented reality design and development.
* Ability to spec, install and maintain VR/AR hardware.
The following are desirable qualifications:
* Record of research results at an international level.
* Experience with physical prototyping, such as 3D printing and
laser-cutting technologies.
* Familiarity with maintenance and operation of cluster-based CAVE
systems.
