Postdoc Position in Interactive Visualization and Machine Learning
Tufts University, Medford, MA
[Apologies if you have received this already. There was some problem
with the mailing list so I'm sending this posting again]
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the
intersection between interactive visualization and machine learning.
The postdoc position is funded by the DARPA D3M program with the goal of
developing visualization systems that enable users to effectively
utilize sophisticated machine learning techniques without having
knowledge of the mathematics and statistics behind the techniques.

Our D3M team consists of Tufts (Remco Chang), Wisconsin (Michael
Gleicher), and Georgia Tech (John Stasko and Alex Endert). The postdoc
researcher will be primarily located at Tufts University (which is
located in the Boston area) and will work closely with the teams at
Wisconsin and Georgia Tech. Some travel to DC (where DARPA is located)
and to Wisconsin and Georgia Tech is expected.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing
interactive visualization systems and some knowledge of machine
learning. Further, the candidate is expected to possess leadership and
management skills (to coordinate between the three universities) and
strong communication skills.
Expected starting date is May 2017 but is negotiable. The D3M program is
scheduled for 4 years and the length of the position is negotiable but
subject to continued funding.
Note that there is no citizenship requirement for this position.
Candidates outside of the US are encouraged to apply.Â
Tufts University is located in the Boston area -- it is two stops away
on the subway to Harvard and two additional stops away from MIT. Boston
is quickly becoming a hub for visualization research including but not
limited to research activities at Harvard, MIT, Google, Tufts,
Northeastern, WPI, Brown, UMass, UMass Dartmouth, Smith, and New
Hampshire. The postdoc researcher is encouraged to take advantage of the
Boston area by collaborating and building relationships with these
nearby universities.
Interested applicants should send an email to Remco Chang
(remco@cs.tufts.edu <mailto:remco@cs.tufts.edu>) that includes a CV and
an optional research statement.
