*PostDoc position "Analysis and visualization of spatiotemporal data"
available at Zuse Institute Berlin*
*(deadline for applications: Jan 31, 2017)*

The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute
under public law of the state of Berlin.
The department Visual Data Analysis is offering a
*research position (f/m)*
reference code WA 34/16
*pay grade E 14 TV-L Berlin*
in the research group Visual Data Analysis in Science and Engineering.
The position is offered from March
1, 2017 and will be a fixed-term contract for 2 years with the option to
be extended.

*Job description
*We are recruiting an exceptionally qualified researcher in the area
of analysis and visualization of
spatiotemporal data. The researcher is expected to develop new
techniques for data analysis and visualization
within the third-party project "High Definition Clouds and Precipitation
for Climate Prediction – HD(CP)2"
(funded by BMBF, http://hdcp2.eu) jointly with climate researchers,
meteorologists, mathematicians and
computer scientists. The on- and offline diagnostics include the
identification and tracking of time-dependent,
deterministic, and stochastic objects, as well as the analysis of
turbulence properties and probability densities.
A specific focus will be on visual analysis of ensembles of functional data.

*Requirements*
You have a PhD in computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or
meteorology, and you have practical
experience in the analysis and visualization of spatiotemporal data. You
like to design software and to develop
algorithms. You have very good knowledge in programming (C ++) and are
interested in in-situ data analysis
on high-performance computers. Experience in programming Fortran and
scripting languages (e.g., Python,
Matlab) is a plus.
You are expected to be highly motivated, self-reliant and to be able to
closely collaborate with researchers in
the application areas. Good command of written and spoken English is
essential.

*What we offer
*We offer a friendly working atmosphere, excellent equipment, a
challenging professional and
international environment, and the possibility of academic further
development.
We particularly welcome the application of women, since women are
generally underrepresented in
information technology and ZIB strives to increase their proportion in
this research area.
Persons with disabilities will be given preference when equally qualified.
Please send your application, quoting the reference code WA 34/16,
including CV in tabular form and the
usual documents to :
