The Institute of Computer Graphics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (http://www.jku.at/cg) is seeking a:

Research Assistant (PhD student)
for a limited period of three years (extendable)
starting October 1, 2015 (or earlier)

The research will be focused on the development of novel Information Visualization and Visual Analytics techniques for the analysis of bio-medical data. The work will be conducted in the course of a research project funded by an industrial partner. The research will be embedded in the Caleydo project (http://www.caleydo.org), which is an ongoing collaboration between JKU Linz, Harvard University and Graz University of Technology. The candidate has the possibility to obtain a PhD degree. Additional duties include the support of the acquisition of third-party funds and the co-supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.

According to the wage agreement of the Austrian Research Funding Agency (FWF), the gross salary is 28.350 EUR/year (30h per week). Applicants must hold a Master’s or Univ. Diploma degree in computer science or related fields (such as mathematics or bioinformatics), and should have profound experience in one or more of the following areas: visualization, data mining, statistics, machine learning, computer graphics and human computer interaction. Considerable experience in software development is expected. Knowledge in web technologies, such as Python, HTML5, D3 and JavaScript, is recommended. Prior involvement in research or development projects is a plus. Candidates must be fluent in English (speaking and writing).
