JOB: Postdoc combining colour and geometry at East Anglia

Senior Research Associate in Computer Vision (Universities of East Anglia,
        Edinburgh and Cambridge)
University of East Anglia - School of Computing Sciences
Location: Norwich
Salary: £31,342 to £37,394
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Contract / Temporary (4 years)
Placed on: 7th November 2014
Closes: 15th December 2014
Job Ref: RA1128

We have a position open for a talented individual to undertake research
that spans both geometric and photometric computer vision. The arc of the
research project covers several topics including camera calibration,
derivative domain processing and the role that illumination plays in image
understanding. The unifying theme is a surprising link recently discovered
– and to be studied in this research project – between the geometry and
photometry of vision.

The project is collaboration between Prof Graham Finlayson (Computing
Sciences, UEA), Prof Robert Fisher (Informatics, Edinburgh), and Prof
Roberto Cipolla (Information Engineering, Cambridge). While mainly based at
UEA (Norwich, east of Cambridge), the successful candidate would be expected
to spend significant time in Edinburgh and also to visit Cambridge. There are
two industrial partners (Apple Inc. and Spectral Edge Ltd) and we expect
there will be opportunities to visit and work at partner sites for extended
periods.

The ideal candidate would have a background in computer vision or image
processing (though, exceptional candidates with other relevant experience
might also apply) and a track record of successful research delivery
(evidenced by papers, working in industry etc). At a minimum, the candidate
should have (or about to have) completed a PhD in computer science,
engineering or other relevant numerate discipline. As this position is at
a senior level, the successful candidate will be responsible for some project
management and should also expect to play a leadership role in the UEA
research group (e.g. mentoring PhD students).

You must have a degree in one of the following, Computing, Mathematics,
Physics or a related numerate discipline and fulfil all essential elements
of the person specification. This full time post is available from
31 January 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter but no later than
1 March 2015, for a period of 4 years.

Closing date: 12 noon on 15 December 2014.

The University is a Bronze Athena Swan Award holder, currently working
towards Silver.
