Post-doctoral research associate in subdivision and related geometric problems

University of Cambridge

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to work with Dr Malcolm Sabin, Dr Jiri Kosinka, and Prof. Neil Dodgson on an EPSRC-funded project. This project follows on from the work that led to the Cambridge group's 2009 SIGGRAPH paper "NURBS with Extraordinary Points: High-degree, Non-uniform, Rational Subdivision Schemes."

The ideal researcher will have experience with the mathematical underpinnings of subdivision surfaces, NURBS, and other 3D modelling techniques. He or she will have extensive programming experience and a PhD in a relevant area of computer science, mathematics, or engineering.

The project is tackling two related questions: (1) how we extract good, coarse subdivision meshes from densely-scanned, real-world models and (2) how we extend and refine the new method of NURBS-compatible subdivision.
