<div>The NYU Visualization, Imaging and Data Analysis (VIDA)
Center invites applications for a Research Engineer position.
The VIDA lab, part of NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering, is
located on new state-of-the-art facilities on the 11th floor
of 370 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY. VIDA is known for its
high-quality visualization research. Our lab has a strong
tradition in the development of open-source tools, having led
and/or contributed to a number of high profile and widely used
open-source tools.<br>
<br>
This position is part of our efforts in the OpenSpace project.
OpenSpace is an open source, non-commercial, and freely
available interactive data visualization software designed to
visualize the entire known universe and portray our ongoing
efforts to investigate the cosmos. The development of
OpenSpace is an active collaboration with the American Museum
of Natural History, Linköping University, and the University
of Utah funded by NASA.<br>

Duties:<br>
<br>
The successful candidate will: contribute to OpenSpace design
and development; work to release OpenSpace as open source, and
help to build a community around the software; meet with
potential collaborators to clarify goals, identify
collaboration opportunities; advance long-term collaborations
around OpenSpace with established partners through joint
research engagements; publish results in appropriate venues,
jointly with other project members; and develop best practices
and case studies with OpenSpace technologies, and
documentation for the OpenSpace software.<br>

Required Qualifications: <br>
<br>
- Bachelor of Science in computer science (or related field)
with emphasis in visualization and computer graphics.<br>
- Highly proficient in C++ programming<br>
- Proven experience in building reusable code and libraries
for future use<br>
- Evidence of an ability to work as part of a distributed team<br>
- Being self-motivated and having good organizational and
communication skills is essential<br>
<br>
Preferred technical skills:<br>
<br>
- Master of Science in computer science <br>
- 3D graphics: 3D graphics for real time, interactive 3D
graphics<br>
- Graphics API: OpenGL, GLSL<br>
- Programming languages : C++, C, Lua, JavaScript (React),
Python<br>
- GPU programming for visual effects<br>
- Experience in GUI development using Qt technologies<br>
- Familiarity with high-quality software practice (test-driven
development, documentation, software review processes, and
cross-platform support)<br>
