The School of Computing at the University of Leeds, UK, is launching an ambitious programme in High Performance Graphics and Games Engineering that will deliver world-class graduates in graphics, and strengthen the School’s internationally leading research base in the field. As part of this initiative we are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate with a track record of excellence in graphics research, and the experience / capability to deliver outstanding teaching. You will have an undergraduate degree, in or demonstrably equivalent to Computer Science, and a PhD in an area relevant to 3D computer graphics, for example in rendering, animation, and/or graphics hardware.
You should have an excellent research track record with the vision and drive to tackle new challenges. This will be reflected in a strong record of publication in internationally respected journals and major conferences, and by a portfolio of grants commensurate with experience. You will have an ability to engender student enthusiasm. The appointee will be expected to contribute to delivery of the new programme in graphics and games, but should have sufficient grounding in computer science to be able to teach across School’s curriculum at undergraduate and/or Masters level if so required in the future. You will be aligned with the School’s research theme in computational science and engineering, and will work closely with other staff in the theme, in particular Professor David Duke and Dr. Hamish Carr.
For appointment at Associate Professor level, you must be able to demonstrate international standing in your field, a track record of successful and substantive grant applications in support of your research, the capacity to deliver an outstanding student experience including teaching of modules within and outside your specialism, and an ability to undertake successful academic leadership.
The post is a further step in the School’s ambitious ongoing programme of expansion to secure its position as a leading centre for both fundamental and applied computer science.
The University of Leeds’ commitment to women in science has been recognised with a national accolade. The University and the Faculty of Engineering have received the Athena SWAN Bronze Award in recognition of our success in recruiting, retaining and developing/promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET).
The University offers generous terms and conditions of employment, a wide range of benefits, services, facilities and family friendly policies. Full details are available on the Human Resources web pages accessible at www.leeds.ac.uk/hr/index.htm
University Grade 8 (£38,896 - £46,414 p.a.) or University Grade 9 (£47,801 - £55.389 p.a.), dependent on experience. This is a permanent position, subject to probation. For further details please visit
