<pre>PhD positions in Visualization/HCI at University of Grenoble, France
===================================================================
Description
-----------
We have two open PhD positions in the area of time series visualization.
We are interested by large time series that are captured during various industrial processes (e.g., recording of sensors during test flights or monitoring of complex manufacturing processes).
Those data sets consist of large numbers of variables sampled at high rates for long periods of time.
The goal of this project is to provide efficient ways to explore those data sets to the experts that are in charge of understanding and improving those complex industrial processes.
Building visualizations that scale to very large data sets (along both the temporal and the number of variables axis), while still being interactive is the first challenge of this project.
The second challenge is to integrate those visualizations of raw data with visualizations of higher level abstractions such as the results of classification algorithms that are used to analyze the data.
Qualifications
--------------
- Excellent MSc degree in computer science
- In-depth knowledge in visualization, human-computer interaction or computer-graphics
- excellent programming skills
- proficient in English
Supervision
-----------
Those projects will be supervised by Dr. Renaud BLANCH <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://iihm.imag.fr/en/member/blanch/"><http://iihm.imag.fr/en/member/blanch/></a> and an expert of the application domain.
Condition
---------
- geography: work on the Grenoble University Campus, Grenoble, France <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenoble"><http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenoble></a>.
- starting date: summer/fall 2015
- net salary: ~ 1500 euros/month
Applications should consist of a motivation letter, a complete CV, a list of publications (if any), degree certificates (including transcripts of courses and grades), names and contact details of at least two references, and other materials if available (e.g., recommendation letters, reprint of publications, etc.)
Applications should be sent to renaud[dot]blanch[at]imag[dot]fr.
